The registration fee for guests includes the welcome reception, site visit, and the Gala. Some cultural activities and post-conference activities are not included and are to be paid for at time of registration.
Please note that all conference attendees as well as their guests will receive a complimentary EasyCard in the conference kit. You can use EasyCard to take the subway, bus, and shop at many stores. However, you have to load the money to the card by yourself. You can go to any MRT station or convenience stores to add money to your card.
American passport holders do not need a visa to enter Taiwan; they are automatically granted a 90-day tourist visa. Those from countries other than the U.S. need to check with the Taiwanese Embassy in their home country.
There are 2 airports near Taipei. Songshan Airport (TSA) is in the city center but only flights from limited cities in both China and Japan land there. Therefore, the majority of international travelers fly directly to Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), which is roughly an hour away from the city center. Once you arrive, there are several ways that you can go to the conference hotel.
First, you can take the MRT from the airport. If you choose this option, remember to have some New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) exchanged beforehand. Follow the sign to the MRT station and you can get your ticket either from the machine or the information booth. It will cost you NTD 160 (USD 5.3) from the airport to Taipei Main station. It is strongly recommended you take a taxi from the Taipei Main Station to your hotel.
Second, you can Uber or taxi from the airport. It will cost you approximately NTD 1,200 (USD 40).

Also, it is likely to have a t-storm in the afternoon in summer, therefore, bringing an umbrella with you is always a good idea.
The local currency is New Taiwan Dollars (NTD).
Exchange rate: $1.00 USD = $30 NTD or $1.00 NTD = $0.33 USD (as of June 2023)
Tips are not required, neither in restaurants nor in taxis. When you dine at the restaurant, there is always a 10% service charge included in your bill.
- Public transportation
The best way to get around the city is by MRT. It is very reliable and easy to understand. However, no food and drinks are allowed inside the station. Otherwise, you will be fined. You can also take the bus, but the bus routes are more complicated. - Convenience stores
The density of convenience stores in Taiwan is very high, especially in Taipei. There is a convenience store at almost every corner of Taipei. Convenience stores are open for 24 hours and they can meet all your needs. You can buy food and drinks and eat inside. You can also pay bills, buy tickets, use ATMs, send and receive packages at convenience stores. Therefore, do not forget to check them out while you are in Taipei. - Recommended food
- Beef noodle soup or Niu Rou Mian in Mandarin: This is an iconic Taiwanese cuisine and you can find plenty of restaurants selling this. However, each restaurant has its own recipe, meaning the taste will be slightly different from restaurant to restaurant.
- Minced pork over rice or Lu Rou Fan in Mandarin: This is another iconic Taiwanese cuisine that can be found easily on the street. It is basically minced, cubed, or ground fatty pork stewed in soy sauce and spices, and then served on rice. Similar to Beef noodle soup, each restaurant has its own recipe in terms of spices used and how fatty the pork is.
- Mango shaved ice: Mango is in season in summer. You will taste slices of fresh mango on top of shaved ice along with mango ice cream.
- Bubble tea: There are lots of tea shops in Taiwan and each has its own signature drink. That means, there are plenty of choices other than “milk tea.” You can ask the staff to recommend you a drink and customize it by the level of sweetness and the amount of ice. Usually you can also decide if you want anything in your drinks: bubbles, puddings etc. Just ask and be adventurous.
